Many companies say they will optimize your website, and they go and put ALT tags on your images and Title tags on your pages, maybe throw down a couple of keywords with bold and italics. I do this, and the meta tags, and custom meta tags, and rich snippets, I reconfigure the URL structure for data hierarchy, I can even convert to wordpress, use data archives and taxonomies, related posts, internal keyword linking systems, tags and more. I encourage any clients who are able to switch to wordpress systems to do so, as they are the best SEO weapon in the arsenal, and can make many very arduous parts of SEO quite a bit more efficient.
I also design landing pages, so if we are targeting AC repair in Mesa Arizona, then I can use my web design skills and create pages dedicated to one or two keywords, much more efficient. This is how I build traffic, which is essential in getting ranked well.
LOCAL SEARCH PROMOTION
The first key is to target attainable keywords, usually long tail to begin, and then create map listings and corresponding directories, lots of them, and very detailed, with unique content, images and full SEO friendly descriptions. I also peruse local blogs to get links, and trade off links with non-competitive local businesses.
LINK BUILDING
In addition to using the directories and web 2.0 sites, we also utilize blogs, bookmarks, articles, custom links, competitors links an more. I also go to great lengths to ensure the maximum amount of relevant context for the anchor text, to help it score that much better. I do utilize open ended link wheels, and some MANUAL article spinning. I particularly find deep linking effective, and arrange my hierarchies for optimal deep linking.
